No ordinary Common Reed !
Variegated thatch or common reed is widely found in wetlands; the cultivar 'Phragmites australis 'Variegatus' has spectacularly yellow-gold striped leaves.
Height: up to 2 metres.
Grow in the sun or partial shade in ordinary soil in a damp location (edge of a pond or ditch).
We strongly recommend container growing (galvanised planters or tubs) for a sunny or shady patio.
When planting out 'Phragmites australis 'Variegatus' in the ground in optimal conditions, make sure you install root control beforehand.
This is a purifying plant in an aquatic situation and can be used for reed bed sewerage (domestic effluent treatment, natural swimming holes).
