A Miscanthus for small gardens
Miscanthus sinensis 'Nippon' is a cultivar from the famous German breeder, Ernst Pagel.
It is compact, rarely growing to 1.5m and flowers hastily in the summer. Its red-purple inflorescences appear well above the foliage and turn cream as they fade. In some conditions, the foliage will take on beautiful autumnal hues of orangey red.
For a small garden or to use as a focus plant.
Cultivation: in the sun in ordinary soil. Hardy. The floral stems and foliage are attractive in winter, so only cut them right back just before the new growth appears.
