Also known as Chinese chives, Oriental garlic, Chinese leek, or kow choi.
I love it. Pure white flowers married with green flower buds!
This is a very decorative species with a long flowering period, producing pure white umbels from June to August. Very effective on gravel in a rockery.
It is a great shame that is is not more widely planted in our gardens. Allium tuberosum's elegant white flowers still honour our gardens at the end of summer when many other plants have already begun to prepare for the winter. The leaves and flowers are edible and add a gentle onion flavour to salads, soups and stews.
The dried flower stems can make very attractive bouquets.
