A treasure in pots or as an adorable small ground cover.
Sedum pachyclados is native to the mountains of Afghanistan and was first described in about 1880.
The plant has pretty, semi-evergreen foliage whose rosettes form a chequered cover of succulent, glaucous leaves. Its flowering comprises sparse bunches of white blooms.
Its original mountain habitat has given it excellent hardiness and its rhizomatous root system means it can grow into a spectacular ground cover as seen in the following photo Click here!
In the garden, the structured foliage of Sedum pachyclados makes it useful for the edging in a rockery or growing pots, troughs on low walls or paving.
Accompanying plant: Sedum rupestre 'Angelina'
Grow in the sun or light shade in gravelly soil that can be poor and dry.
But be careful! Its mountain origin means that Sedum pachyclados prefers a cool spot or at least cold, dry winters and an aversion to warmth and dampness.
Synonyms: Rhodiola pachyclada, Rhodiola primuloides var. pachyclados.
