Agapanthus 'Purple Cloud'

Availability : Available

Description :

An unusual theatricality!

At the height of summer Agapanthus 'Purple Cloud’ produces unusual hanging clusters of dark blue flowers with purple highlights, borne on very theatrical, sturdy stems more than 120 cm in height.

Plant matches:

A cloud of little, dark violet butterflies (Salvia 'Nachtvlinder') or cream stars Coreopsis verticilliata 'Moonbeam') will clothe its tall, sturdy stems and provide an attractive contrast of flower shapes.

Grow in full sun in a temperate climate in good, fertile, moist, well-drained garden soil. Depending on the climatic conditions, you may need to provide a protective overwintering veil.

In continental climates Agapanthus 'Purple Cloud' can be grown in pots and kept in a cold frame, veranda or unheated indoor space during the winter.

Advice for growing in pots:

Start watering and adding fertilizer in early spring and continue until flowering. Then water less frequently and stop completely at the end of September to prepare the plant for winter. (The foliage turns yellow).
