Description :

A miniature plant for the rockery. A purple variety

This dwarf rhizomatous iris is native to Eastern Europe, from the Balkans to Turkey. A hardy perennial that likes poor, dry, gravelly soils.

The arched (falcate) leaves grow in a circle with the flowers erect above the foliage. Iris mellita is a perfect plant to grow in a trough or in a rockery (scree, crevice).

Grow in the sun in ordinary soil, which can be poor and dry.

Too much moisture will cause the rhizome to rot in winter. For healthy flowering, the rhizome must be above the growing substrate.
