Dierama pulcherrimum 'Album'

Availability : Available

Description :

The Dierama genus is a member of the Iridaceae family and native to meadows in the Drakensberg Mountains of southern Africa. There are some fifty species which have a clump-forming habit, tall, straight, narrow leaves and hanging bell flowers.

Dierama pulcherrimum 'Album' has unusual flowers for the genus: hanging, white tubular bells borne on a tall arching stem more than 1.5 m in height.

In the garden, Dierama pulcherrimum 'Album' can be a spectacular focus plant in a mixed border or to highlight the corner of a bed of small ground cover plants (Acaena, Thymus) or as a somewhat theatrical curtain as a backdrop for a rockery or gravel garden.

You might also be tempted to plant it by the side of a pond. In which case, you need to be careful to plant it in a spot where the corms will not be in sodden soil during the winter.

Grow in rich soil that is moist in the summer, but well-drained in winter. Heavy, clay soils should be avoided as should scorched and dry locations in the summer.

Hardiness: - 8°C. Protective mulch is highly recommended in the winter in harsh climates and, in all cases, for the first two growing seasons.

Synonym: Dierama pulcherrimum 'Snowbells'.

Common name: Angel's Fishing Rod.
