Description :

Strikingly bright and shiny foliage

Native to the Iberian peninsula and naturalised in New Zealand Angelica pachycarpa surprises many a gardener with it strange, bright, shiny foliage.

It is a biannual which grows its generous clumps of sumptuous leaves in the first year and, in the second, a floral stem with enormous umbels of white flowers.

Angelica pachycarpa is an architectural plant that we like to plant in a moist spot, north or east facing, in good, moist, humus-rich garden soil. Re-seeds. Hardy.

Its three companions: Echinacea 'Green Jewel', Kniphofia 'Green Jade', Carex trifida 'Rekohu Sunrise'

PS: Not to be confused with Angelica archangelica the stems of which are used for culinary purposes or in natural medicine.
