Hosta 'Big Daddy' belongs to the Hosta sieboldiana hybrid group and received an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 2012.
Hosta 'Big Daddy' is a vigorous grower and forms wide clumps up to 45 cm in height. It has large, thick (*) leaves, with a prominent central rib and a puckered, bluish leaf blade.
Summer flowering in bunches of hanging, pale lavender flowers.
Grow in partial shade in good, fertile garden soil that is moist in summer. Grows very well in containers.
Maintenance: A thick mulch of mature compost applied around its base at the end of winter will preserve moisture during the summer. Cut the plant back in spring before the new growth appears.
(*) The thickness of the foliage makes it (relatively) resistant to snails.
