Must Have Salvia!
This superb selection is the result of work carried out at the University of Buenos Aires (2005). Salvia 'Amistad’ has only recently been introduced into our gardens, but has all the qualities needed to become an indispensable plant much like the “Rozanne” variety is to the perennial geraniums:
- a vigorous clump of dark green, aromatic, lanceolate leaves, 120 cm in height 50 cm in width;
- exquisite purple tubular flowers with a black calyx;
- continuous flowering from May until October (as long as you prune the dried floral stems);
- easy to grow in pots or beds.
We plant Salvia 'Amistad’ in the garden on its own as a focus plant, en masse in a semi-shaded border, or on a patio in a large pot or tub to show off its incredible floriferousness.
Accompanying plants: Kniphofia, Verbena bonariensis, Liatris spicata, Coreopsis verticillata 'Moonbeam'
Grow in good garden soil in the sun or light shade.
Maintenance: apply a thick mulch of compost in the spring. Apply a dried bracken mulch for overwinter protection in a harsh climate.
- 0,7 litre pot
- Hardiness zones : zone 8-10
- Height: 130 to 150cm
- Plant spacing: 70 cm
- Flower colour: purple
- Flowering period: summer flowers
