Anemone hupehensis 'Splendens' is a compact variety with brilliant dark pink flowers.
Easy to grow in a partial shade position in good garden soil, which should be well drained in winter. This charming Japanese anemone goes very well with other autumn-flowering perennials (Helenium, Aster, Rudbeckia, Echinacea), and grasses (Panicum, Pennisetum, Miscanthus).
As it is a late starter in the spring, the planting space can be filled up with spring-flowering perennials (Brunnera, Epimedium, Pulmonaria) and bulbs (Ipheion, Galanthus).
A good cut flower for arrangements.
Maintenance: Cut back the tufts at the end of the autumn and cover with a protective mulch in regions with harsh winters. Mulch with leaf mould at the beginning of spring.
