Native to the northern hemisphere from Europe to Asia Epimedium are very sturdy, extremely hardy long-lived, rhizomatous perennials.
We like to plant them in an ornamental garden as ground cover for partial shade areas, or in the forefront of an herbaceous border or under trees.
Epimedium x youngianum 'Niveum' or snowy barrenwort is a compact perennial 25 cm in height with charming, delicate, pure white spring flowers (15 mm in width)
Its leaves are composed of 9 leaflets and are bronze when they start turning a soft green as they age.
We like to plant Epimedium x youngianum 'Niveum' in a shady rockery together with other partial shade beauties, such as: Pulmonaria 'Majesté', Primula, Viola, Brunnera 'Looking Glass', Lamium maculatum 'White Nancy', Leucojum, Galanthus.
It is also a good specimen for an alpine greenhouse.
