Variable-leaved Sea holly
Native to Morocco, Eryngium varrifolium has remarkable foliage in the form of shiny dark green and cream rosettes. July to October flowering of silvery blue spikes.
Grow in ordinary, well-drained, sandy soil. Sun or slight shade. Height: 40 cm. Planting distance: 50 cm.
Goes well at the edge of a border with Coreopsis, Achillea, Festuca, Stipa tenuifolia, or in a rock garden with Sedum, Armeria, Dianthus.
In a partial shade bed, we like to match it with the silvery foliage of a Brunnera or Pulmonaria.
