Red Valerian or Jupiter's Beard
Is your garden diabolically dry in the summer and you can't water it or you're off on holiday for two months? Perhaps you would to prefer to sip a cold drink in the shade of a tree?
Centranthus ruber 'Coccineus' is the plant for you! No watering, no fertiliser. Pruned drastically to 20Â cm and off it goes again.
In late spring Centranthus ruber 'Coccineus' produces bunches of raspberry pink flowers. After flowering, don't hesitate to cut the plant back to half its size to prompt more blooms. Grow in the sun in ordinary soil, which can be poor and dry. Re-seeds itself easily.
