Really worth discovering
Unlike many Symphytum, the 'Empire' cultivar does not stray beyond its own square metre. This sturdy comfrey is very long-lived and, at the end of spring, produces a spectacular and very elegant display of violet blue flowers, which are typical of comfreys.
Will grow in a range of substrates from good garden soil to barren earth and from full scorching sun to partial shade (even the dry shade of trees). Height: 75 cm.
For borders to accompany Sedum, Santolina, Artemisia or Stachys byzantina 'Big Ears'.
