Description :

The plant with no leaves!

It produces a spray of stems, which make it look something like a broom. It is also known as Horsetail Knotweed as it looks like a horsetail; explaining its Latin name 'scoparium' which means 'broom'. This is sometimes replaced by 'equisetiforme' (equisetum = horsetail + form).

Persicaria scoparium belongs to the knotweed family whose scientific name Persicaria (previously Polygonum) refers to the knotty bulges along the stem. 'Poly' means several and 'gonum' means knee!

This species is only found in Corsica and Sardinia where it is endemic, mainly on the west coast of Corsica.
