Description :

Long summer flowering with violet-blue blooms.

Salvia 'Blue Note’ is a selection bred by Cathy Bernabé of the Fleurs et Senteurs nursery in Brittany (Côtes d'Armor, France). Salvia 'Blue Note' was first included in the catalogue in 2011 and is a cross between Salvia chamaedryoides x Salvia lycioides.

This sage is a subshrub that grows into a clump, spreading out and up to 60 cm in height. It has small, dark green, aromatic leaves which are adorned with a superb flowering of deep violet-blue spike blooms. Salvia 'Blue Note' has great ornamental value and will easily find its place planted out in the garden or in a pot.

It combines well with the silvery foliage of artemisia and its long summer flowering period means that Salvia 'Blue Note' goes well with the pink hues of Achillea 'Apple Blossom', Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus Superior', Diascia or, for a colder colour combination, with the grey blues of Nepeta, Perovskia and Echinops.

For a rock garden, gravel garden or sunny patio in a temperate climate. (*)

Grow in the sun in light, moderately fertile, mainly sandy, and slightly acidic to chalky soil. Good drainage is absolutely necessary to enable the plant to live healthily through the winter. Avoid heavy, damp soils. Hardiness: -10°C

(*) In more continental regions, you can grow Salvia 'Blue Note' in the ground, as long as it is protected from cold winds and too much damp; it is best to plant it in a south-facing spot, against a wall and in well-drained soil.
