A blue globe thistle
This summer plant is free flowering from July to September, producing 3 - 5 cm diameter globes borne on long, sturdy stems over 1 metre in height.
Echinops 'Veitch's Blue' is quite happy with not much: sun and poor soil.
It is easy to grow and goes well with the pink of Achillea 'Rose Madder', the blue of Geranium Rozanne, the grey blue of Perovskia, the salmon of Salvia 'St Jean de Beauregard', and the silvery grey of the artemisia.
"And, you know, I'm not bad with Sedum X Matrona either! My nightmare is to be planted all alone in onion rows, only good to be cut for magnificent bouquets."
