Description :

Black Iris

Iris chrysographes is a rhizomatous perennial native to China (Guizhou, Sichuan, Xizang) and Myanmar (Yunnan). Its natural habitat is marshy land (forest margins, streamsides and wet meadows) with damp, fertile soil, between 1200 and 1400 metres in altitude. Hardiness: -15°C

The Iris chrysographes 'Black Form' variety that we are offering has an even blacker flower. A velvety black-violet flower with a fine golden vein.

The plant grows into a clump 25 to 50 cm in height with straight, grey-green leaves up to 70 cm in length. Flowering: May - June.

We like to plant it in larger colonies in the ornamental garden to show it in all its splendour.

And if you want an interesting lighting effect, plant it against the daylight to catch the morning sun... ... and let the show begin!

You can also plant Iris chrysographes 'Black Form' as a botanical curiosity either as an individual specimen or in small groups of three to five plants in the wet banks of a pond or in a tub.

Grow in fertile, peaty soil, which is moist to damp (during the growing season) in the sun (not scorching) or in light shade.

Maintenance:

- Plant in soil enriched with mature compost.

- Trim the dried flowers and yellowing leaves in late autumn.

- Keep the soil moist.
