Description :

A compact plant for superb displays in a border or pots.

English gardener Heather Philpott discovered Veronica spicata 'Royal Candles' in Kent (UK) in the early 2000s. It forms a compact tuft that only grows to 25 cm to 30 cm in height and produces an abundance of fine, vertical, indigo blue floral spikes, which emerge from its attractive, indented dark green foliage.

Its beautiful ornamental qualities make it suitable to grow as edging in a bed, in a rockery or pots.

Preferably row in full sun in ordinary, moderately fertile, light and well-drained soil. If you are growing in hot conditions (e.g. in southern Europe), this speedwell can be grown in partial shade.

Maintenance:

Regularly prune the dried floral spikes to prolong the flowering period. Cut back the plant in the autumn and apply a mulch of mature compost in early spring. Avoid heavy, clay soils which are wet in winter.
