A well-behaved bellflower!
Campanula 'Samantha' is probably the result of a cross between Campanula ranieri x Campanula carpatica; it is a marvellous plant, distinguished from its cousins by its large, prominent lavender blue cup flowers.
This bellflower forms a low, compact carpet of light green, tidy leaves, only 10-15 cm in height. Flowering starts in June and continues through until September (*).
Ideal for a rock garden associated with glaucous-leaved varieties such as (Sesleria heufleriana) silver foliage plants (Artemisia ludoviciana 'Valerie Finnis'), Campanula 'Samantha' also grows well in pots with Ophiopogon 'Black Dragon', Lamium maculatum'White Nancy'or Brunnera macrophylla 'Alexander's Great'.
In short! This pretty bellflower is well-behaved: a long flowering period, subtle scent, tidy and impeccable and easy to grow.
Grow in the sun or partial shade in slightly acid, gravelly, fertile soil. Avoid heavy, clay soils which do not drain well in winter.
Maintenance: Samantha lives for four to five years, so we recommend division before then, or taking cuttings as its flowers are sterile.
(*) Regular deadheading will encourage more flowering.
