At last! A huge cherry-red heart!
We know Dicentra spectabilis, which is pink and white and the pure white D. spectabilis 'Alba'. Now we have Dicentra spectabilis 'Valentine':
Dicentra 'Valentine' is a generous plant with a short springtime cycle, which literally bursts into life in March-April. Its foliage emerges plum-coloured then turns green grey, and from which appear garlands of small scintillating two-tone, white and cherry-red hearts. Yes!!
Height: 60 cm. Spread: 45 cm
Grow in partial shade in good, moist, light, well-drained garden soil.
This plant goes into summer dormancy early and only re-appears the following spring, so remember to mark its location and limit watering to keep the tuberous roots healthy! Mulch with mature compost at the end of winter.
