No pain, no gain
Noteworthy horticultural selections are the result of long years of work and, quite often, a stroke of luck.
In its issue of 28 May 1998 the Herald Scotland paints the portrait of a quite astonishing Scottish couple, Tony and Maureen Coakley.
It all started with an unhappy sowing of Delphinium elatum which only produced one seedling that survived and then chance or fate took over and started an extraordinary story!
After long years of work, courage and perseverance, Tony and Maureen Coakley have gained an international reputation for their Clansman Series and Highlander Series. Their selections are all extraordinary and we are delighted to offer them for the first time in our 2014-2015 perennial plant collection.
In mid-summer Delphinium elatum 'Moonlight' produces blue-veiled lilac double flowers with emerald centres.
Height of the floral stems: 70 to 100 cm. Loose deeply-cut leaves
Grow in the sun or light shade in good garden soil, which is well-drained in winter.
Regular, balanced fertilisation (little and often) from March to September. As for all delphiniums, biological slug control is inevitable when the new growth starts.
