Description :

Echinacea purpurea 'Tangerine Dream' is a recent selection (2011) from the American Terra Nova Nurseries. We were particularly taken with its luminous mandarine flowers borne on sturdy stems, its delicate honey scent and a well-branched habit.

In the garden we recommend that you plant it to contrast with Verbena bonariensis or in a less usual combination with Rudbeckia triloba 'Prairie Glow', which has smaller blooms, but with equally attractive hues.

It's also worth trying it planted with Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Little Spire', the agastaches, Geranium 'Rozanne', grasses, Carex testacea, Pennisetum orientale 'Karley's Rose', or asters (*), Aster cordifolius 'Little Carlow', Aster novae-angliae 'Septemberrubin'.

Grow in the sun in good, well-drained garden soil. You can improve drainage by adding some rough sand or planting on a mound in a mix of equal parts rough sand, garden soil and compost.

(*) Deadheading will prolong flowering until the autumn.
