A little background:
Once upon a time (*), in the land of Musala, in the far-off mountains of Rila, the botanist Wilhelm Schlacht, was out for a walk with good King Boris III of Bulgaria.
Early in the morning, on a hilly path, he discovered a very beautiful little plant.
Какво е това чудо ? (**) He said as he bent down to pick a flower.
Thus was named Geum x borissii, hybrid of Geum bulgaricum x Geum reptans !
It forms a compact clump 40 cm high including the flowers. Luminous orangey-red flowers in May-June.
Flowers continue sporadically during the summer and autumn.
Geum coccineum 'Borisii' or Boris Avens is a great addition to a rock garden or the front of a mixed border. We like to plant it underneath the sumptuous Crocosmia 'Zealtan'.
It also works well as a container plant combined with a coloured foliage carex.
Grow in the sun or partial shade in moist, fertile soil.
