Here is how Francis Peeters presents Echinacea purpurea 'Green Jewel' in the Autumn-Winter issue No. 43 of the Jardins d'Eden magazine.
"There is a colour that is not much talked about and that is green. But it's a colour that is unavoidable and everywhere in the garden. Of course, you're thinking of the lawn and most foliage. But there are also some green flowers like this well-named little jewel which, I am sure, is going to become a classic in the perennial world. It has a sturdy stem which does not bend in the wind, equally robust flowers which appear in the middle of the summer with a green heart and very narrow, young leaves which unfurl to a perfectly horizontal position.
Perfect in full sun where its colour becomes lighter, but it loses nothing of its lovely appearance. Even better, partial shade brings out fully its rare and captivating colour."
Grow in the sun (not too hot) or shaded exposure in good garden soil, which is not too dry in the summer and well-drained in winter.
It goes well with green foliage plants (ferns, grasses, Eupatorium capillifolium), white flowering plants (Aster pilosus var. pringlei 'Monte Cassino', Kalimeris incisa 'Alba') and variegated cream foliage plants (Euphorbia characias 'Emmer Green').
