A very popular genus, Penstemon is native to North America and has more than two hundred species of subshrubs and perennials.
It is a star of the summer garden and much loved by gardeners for its shimmering flowering of tall floral stems and by flower arrangers for bringing joy to a bouquet !
Penstemon 'Amelia Jane' or P. 'Amelia Jayne' is a recent hybrid produced by breeder Edward Wilson from the celebrated Pensham® series which has passed on its qualities of:
- more hardiness,
- better resistance to temporary drought,
- good performance of the flowers in bad weather,
- long flowering period from July to October.
Its beautiful white-throated cerise flowers bring a splash of colour to summer beds and go very well with the reddish-brown foliage of Panicum or provide contrasting flower shapes with, for instance, Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus Superior'.
