The Acanthus mollis species is native to the Mediterranean basin and its leaves are models for the motifs that adorn the pediments of Greek temples. Acanthus mollis 'Hollard's Gold' is a recent variety produced in New Zealand.
Acanthus mollis 'Hollard's Gold' is very hardy (-15°C) and forms a compact clump of 80 cm in diameter. In the springtime its inimitable foliage is the colour of fresh butter.
The foliage, together with the well-known acanthus flower, makes this a focus plant, to be planted either on its own or at the edge of a bed or on a partially shaded patio.
Plant association: Alchemilla mollis, Aquilegia 'Green Apple', Heuchera 'Citronnelle', Heucherella 'Solar Power', Peucedanum, Tolmiea menziesii 'Taff's Gold'...
