Description :

Elephant's ears or elephant-eared saxifrage

Bergenia cordifolia 'Abendglut' is an exceptional variety for several reasons. It is extremely hardy, flowers abundantly with semi-double, pink red blooms, has a clean and tidy habit all year round and a ruby red foliage in winter.

The Bergenia genus comprises less than ten species all native to the meadows, moist forests and rocky moorlands of Central Asia (*).

Its decorative winter aspect makes Bergenia cordifolia 'Abendglut' an essential feature of the garden. We like to plant it in mass in slightly shady beds, under fruit trees (apple), or in lines along a garden path.

Height: 30 cm. Planting distance: 60 cm. Grow in the sun or slight shade in ordinary, not too dry in summer, and well-drained soil. Very hardy.

Avoid excessive heat. Divide every four years to promote vigorous growth. Its leaves can be used for floral arrangements.
