Description:

Also known as Uniola latifolia or wild oats.

A good choice for any sunny or partial shade garden.

Native to the woodlands of North America, Chasmanthium latifolium is simply a remarkable, multi-talented grass which, once planted, you will never do without!

It has foliage rather like a bamboo providing a backdrop for its inflorescences, which are hanging, bell-like panicles.

Chasmanthium latifolium is excellent as a cut flower. It has an upright habit with light green foliage in the sun, but a rather droopy habit and dark green leaves when planted in partial shade and light green spikelets that turn bronze.

Height of the foliage: 70 to -100 cm.

Height of the inflorescences: 90 to -130 cm.

Use: in pots, bouquets, beds, partial shade, under trees, next to ponds, in the sun, in ordinary soil or heavy clay soil.

At the nursery we like to plant Chasmanthium latifolium with Deschampsia. Both give a good display throughout the summer gardening season until the first winter frost and provide a final flourish when the frost decorates the spikelets.

Grow in ordinary garden soil that is not too dry, in partial shade or sun. Cut the clumps right back at the end of winter before the new growth.

Very hardy. - 20°C.
