Andropogon scoparius 'Prairie Blue'

Andropogon scoparius 'Prairie Blues' is native to the American prairies, from Quebec to Mexico and is typical of the natural prairies in North America. It is tolerant to a range of growing conditions, whether acid or alkaline soil, moist or arid terrains.

Very hardy, but yes, it prefers poor, well-drained soil and a good supply of sunshine. Planted in partial shade in moist, fertile soil, it may droop and be less resistant to root rot.

Andropogon scoparius 'Prairie Blues' is a terrific cultivar which forms slender clumps up to 1 metre in height with strongly marked blue foliage that turns orangey-red in the autumn. It remains attractive throughout the winter. Deciduous.

Synonym: Schizachyrium scoparium 'Prairie Blues'.
