Giant Fountain Grass
Native to the sunny meadows of Japan and a large part of South East Asia, Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Japonicum' forms a beautiful dense tuft with end of summer inflorescences of dense, cylindrical spikes.
Relatively hardy (-15°C and sometimes below) it is good to plant in rows along the edge of a mixed border as a landscaping marker or, on its own, as a focus plant for the end of summer.
Example: 5 x Pennisetum planted three metres apart.
In winter it remains very attractive and should only be cut back to 30 cm in February.
Easy to grow in ordinary, light, well-drained soil that is slightly acid, neutral to alkaline.
Height: 1 m - 1.2 m
