A remarkable cultivar
This giant fountain grass comes from the garden of American landscape legend Bill Frederick (Delaware Valley, USA). Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Pauls Giant' was named after his gardener Paul Skibinsky.
After a late winter trim the foliage grows quickly into a round clump, 45 cm in height. And in the summer there is a fantastic flourish of pink-purple to light brown spikelets, which can reach up to 120 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter by the end of the summer.
They are borne on strong stalks which reach high up above the foliage.
You can plant Pennisetum 'Pauls Giant' as a green wall to enclose a bed or to give structure to the edge of a pathway.
Grow in the sun or (very) slight shade in ordinary, well-drained soil. Avoid poor, dry soil.
