A hybrid from Calamagrostis epigeros and C. arundinacea, Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Avalanche' is available as the very popular 'Karl Foerster' cultivar.
There are also some very interesting variegated selections of this feather reed grass.
Calamagrostis 'Avalanche' has leaves with white stripes down the middle (the other way round from C. 'Overdam') and is a very luminous grass.
In the garden we like to plant it along the edge of a border for its strong verticality and attractive foliage.
