Common quaking grass, Maidenhair-grass, Dithering-grass
Briza media 'Limouzi' produces diaphanous inflorescences like small shimmering hearts from May until late August.
The inflorescences which are often used in dried flower arrangements are initially a purplish-green before turning straw-coloured.
Useful in borders or pots. Try combining Briza media 'Limouzi' with flowers of the same kind (heuchera) to produce a Monet-like effect or with Knautia macedonica or Allium to create contrasts.
Height: 50 cm.
Cultivation: in the sun in ordinary soil. This is a great, really long-lived plant and as hardy as they come. You can cut it right back in the autumn. Its green clumps will remain attractive in the autumn and winter.
Note: before pesticides, Briza maxima, an annual, was found in wheat fields. It has the same inflorescences as Briza media.
