Royal Fern

This genus belongs to the Osmundaceae family and has a dozen species spread across the planet's wetlands (e.g. Australia).

The royal fern is deciduous. It has a spectacular spread with fronds 1.2m in height. The fronds of Osmunda regalis 'Purpurescens' are purple in spring and take on fantastic colours in autumn.

Grow in partial shade in damp, humus-rich soil. It can cope with subdued sunlight in the summer if the soil remains moist.
