Matteuccia struthiopteris, commonly known as ostrich fern or shuttlecock fern, forms a crown of fronds 100 to 120 cm in height. It spreads through horizontal rhizomes.

For understory planting, shady banks of ponds, damp partial shade beds. Try growing in a pot to create a 'forest floor' effect.
Grow in partial shade in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained garden soil. Deciduous and hardy.
