Achillea clypeolata is endemic to the Balkans and is traditionally used for its medicinal properties, similar to those of A. millefolium. It grows into an attractive cushion of deeply indented, silvery green, lanceolate leaves. Summer flowering from June to September of golden yellow umbels. Height of the flowers: 50 cm.

In the garden, we combine Achillea clypeolata with grasses that like a dry warm situation: Stipa tenuifolia, Sesleria heufleriana, Muhlenbergia. Light and moving foliage in contrast with the rather heavy habit of the umbels.

Grow in full sun in a rock garden. Poor, slightly acid to alkaline soil, which should be well drained in winter.
