Synonym: Lobelia oligophylla, Pratia subsessilis
Hypsela reniformis is a recent introduction for ornamental gardens.
Hypsela reniformis or pixie carpet comes from the moist uplands of the Andes (Chile). It is an alpine plant (grows above the tree line, where there are no conifers or deciduous trees), which forms a delightful carpet of evergreen succulent leaves through the winter and which keep their shape in the summer.
Single lilac pink flowers from May to September.
In the garden we use it as a small ground cover in the rock garden, gravel garden or alpine garden.
As it can withstand damp conditions, we also use it to consolidate the banks of a pond.
Height: 5 cm. Spreads over 30 cm.
Grow in the sun or slight shade in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil.
