Ground cover perennials for poor, dry soil are often native to the Mediterranean basin.
In many cases, these are plants that we would recommend for planting in a rock garden, with light and well-drained soil, protection from too much damp in winter by applying a fine gravel mulch around the plant's collar.
A word of warning: these ground cover perennials can be formidable if planted in good garden soil!
